Call for Nominations

The Society for Social Work and Research will present its annual Distinguished
Achievement Award at its next conference “Celebrating a Decade of SSWR”, January
13-15, 2005 in Miami, Florida. Nominees should have cumulative career accomplishments
that set them apart from other leaders in social work research regarding the extent
to which their contributions have advanced the state of the art of social work
research and/or its utilization. These accomplishments may include the nominee’s
own accumulated research works and/or other ways in which he/she has supported
the social work research enterprise, the utilization of social work research or
the integration of research and social work practice. Nominees should have a bachelor’s,
master’s or doctoral degree in social work or social welfare or be a faculty member
in a social work program. International nominees are welcome.
Nominations for the award should be in the form of a letter describing the
career accomplishments of the nominee relevant to the above guidelines and providing
a persuasive rationale for why the nominee merits consideration for the award.
Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. In either case,
nominating statements should contain the nominee’s name, current address, phone
number, email address, and updated curriculum vitae. Please also include the nominator’s
name, address, phone number and email address. Up to three letters of support
from others may also be included.
Anyone who submitted a nomination in 2003 will not need to do so again this
year--these materials will be considered active for two additional years. Henceforth,
all nominations will be under consideration for three years.
The award recipient will be honored at the Awards Ceremony at the 2005 conference.
This is becoming one of the most prestigious awards in the profession. We strongly
encourage you to nominate outstanding individuals.
Twelve copies of nominating letters and supportive materials should be sent
to:
Dr. Deborah K. Padgett, President, SSWR
New York University
School of Social Work
