Society for Social Work and Research Fellowship Program

View list of first cohort of SSWR FELLOWS 2014

The Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) Fellows are members who have served with distinction to advance the mission of the Society -- to advance, disseminate, and translate research that addresses issues of social work practice and policy and promotes a diverse, equitable and just society.

The SSWR Fellowship has been established by the Society to honor and to recognize current SSWR members for their individual accomplishments, leadership and contribution to SSWR as a scientific society. It is anticipated that SSWR Fellows will serve as role models and mentors for individuals pursuing careers in social work research and will continue to actively advance the mission of SSWR.

Eligibility for the SSWR Fellow designation is determined by a point system established by the SSWR Board under which individual members are awarded points for participation in the activities listed below. Eligible years are determined based upon available, verifiable records (1994-2013).

One point is awarded for each activity in a given year as follows.

• Membership: 1 point for each year of membership.
• Abstract submissions: 1 point for each abstract submission by the presenting author of oral papers and posters; symposia organizer/chair, symposia discussant, symposia presenting author of a paper within symposia, all roundtable speakers, and all workshop speakers.
• Accepted abstracts: 1 point for each presenter whose abstract was accepted which includes the presenting author of oral papers and posters; symposia organizer/chair, symposia discussant, presenting author of a paper within symposia, all roundtable speakers, and all workshop speakers.
• Conference abstract reviewers: 1 point for each year of service.
• Special Interest Group (SIG) conveners/co-conveners: 1 point for each year of service.
• Conference cluster chairs/co-chairs: 1 point for each year of service.
• Elected board members: 1 point for each year of service.
• SSWR awardees: 1 point for each award received.
• Award review committee members who are not board members: 1 point for each year of service.

SSWR staff will update records annually and provide the data to the SSWR Fellows Awards Committee which is comprised of the President, the Award Committee co-chairs, and the Membership Task Force chair, who confirm that eligibility requirements have been met. The number of inductees each year is approximately three percent of the total number of SSWR members in that year and will not exceed 10% of the total SSWR membership in any given year. The list of SSWR Fellows for a given year is approved by the SSWR Board. SSWR Fellows maintain their status as long as they are current members of the Society.

Each year’s class of SSWR Fellows will be inducted at the SSWR Annual Conference during the Annual Awards Presentation. SSWR Fellows will be recognized in the conference program book, on the SSWR website, and with a conference name badge ribbon.
