This oral presentation will discuss the role of the Society of Social Work
and Research in the promotion of evidence-based practice. Chief among
the efforts is SSWR’s membership in the Campbell Collaboration, which is
an international, multi-disciplinary organization founded in Sweden and
financially supported by Denmark. The goal of the Campbell Collaboration
is to advance the fields of social work and social welfare, education and
criminal justice by using systematic literature review using meta-analytic
procedures. The results of these systematic reviews is the development
and delineation of effective practice and practice guidelines which are
research based. Since introducing the Campbell Collaboration at the
annual conference in Atlanta in 2000, SSWR has participated in the first
annual Campbell Collaboration conference by sending two SSWR members to
contribute. This presentation will update the entire membership about
the efforts of the Campbell Collaboration. The goal of the presentation
is also to organize the SSWR membership to develop problems and procedures
for conducting systematic reviews of particular social work and social
welfare problems. The presentation will be facilitated by members
of the SSWR Board of Directors and identified members from the United States
and Europe. The ultimate outcome is the on-going involvement of SSWR
with the Campbell Collaboration and to mobilize our membership to conduct
systematic reviews in order to promote evidence-based practice.
